Grandfather Home for Children now known as Children's Hope Alliance began in 1914 when Presbyterian minister, Reverend Edgar Tufts, converted a farmhouse belonging to Edgar Tufts Memorial Association into an orphanage for homeless children. Today, the organization offers a wide array of programs to help over 500 children and youth each year overcome the abuse and neglect that they have experienced. Programs include residential care and a charter school on Banner Elk campus plus a foster family ministry across 57 counties in NC.
