From the guest book of the first guests in the new Ruffin Retreat Cottage opened September 2014
'' Paul & I had the privilege of being the first residents of the newly remodeled ''Ruffin Retreat''. We had a wonderful restful time! Everything was ''comfy & cozy''..our bed, the porch and then let me tell you of the unusual experience that awaits you when you find yourself ready for bath or shower. You wouldn't expect to find this in a ''Mountain B&B! But there it was, something from outer space... A high tech steam and shower spa!!! I could have spent hours in there ..ohhhh so nice!!! Of course the claw foot tub soak was nice too!!
Thank you Eric & Norma so much for your hospitality and breakfasts and a very relaxing time in the mountains!
Hope to see you soon again,
Paul & Dottie Olsen
A good base camp for exploring the high country, the Gable Haus is located just two miles from Grandfather Mountain, 3 miles from Blue Ridge Parkway which can take you to the town of Blowing Rock via the Linville Viaduct and the opposite way 12 miles to Linville Falls, and Linville Caverns.
Our Inn and Cabins are located on Ruffin Street in the high country of Linville NC where art, history, and romance are truly alive today. The romance began some 100 years ago when Thomas Jacob Jake Hartley built the original structure that now houses the Gable Haus Country Inn on Ruffin Street. He constructed the Victorian Farmhouse in the spring of 1910 and then brought his bride Clara Mooney Hartley to the home in the fall when they were married.
