About Us
The High Country’s First Ski Area:
Appalachian Ski Mtn. had its beginning over 50 years ago when the ski area was known as “Blowing Rock Ski Lodge” opened in 1962 and officially named Appalachian Ski Mountain in 1968.
Over One Million People Taught:
Learn to ski or snowboard with the Southeast’s oldest and best known ski school, the French-Swiss Ski College. Group and private lessons are taught in a safe, fun and friendly environment. Our dedicated instructors teach newcomers and coach intermediate skiers and snowboarders seeking to improve their skills.
There are 2 Quad Chairlifts, 1 Double Chairlift, 1 Conveyor Lift, 1 Handle Pull Lift, and 11 slopes including 3 Terrain Parks.
The ski season usually opens the Friday before Thanksgiving and can last through late March/early April. We are open 7 days and nights a week. Night skiing begins the day after Thanksgiving.
Our refrigerated outdoor Ice Arena has 3 sessions daily at Noon, 2:30 and 7 PM. We have 2,200 sets of Ski Equipment rentals, 650 snowboard rentals, clothing rentals, and helmet rentals on site.
Appalachian Ski Mountain is the home of the French Swiss Ski College, the Southeast's largest independent Ski School, offering daily group and private lessons and the SKIwee Childrens' Program. Facilities: Our lodge has more than 46,000 sq ft of Bavarian-style lodge with wireless Internet, restaurant, ski shop, gift shop, nursery for ages 1 to 4, lockers, video game room, meeting rooms, and a 200-foot observation deck.
We have off-season wedding receptions as well.
