About Us

The North Carolina Community Foundation brings together generous people and connects them to causes and organizations they care about, with a focus on inspiring lasting and meaningful philanthropy in the state’s rural communities.

With $400 million in assets, NCCF sustains over 1,200 endowments and partners with donors and a network of affiliates in 60 counties to strengthen our state. By stewarding and growing donors’ gifts, NCCF makes a powerful impact through a robust grants and scholarships program awarding over $270 million since 1988. Avery Community Foundation, the local affiliate, recently awarded Avery High School 2023 graduate Augustus “Gus” Carpenter $5,690 through the Ann Cook Scholarship. Also, the following non-profit organizations were awarded grants: Yellow Mountain Enterprises, High Country Caregiver Foundation, High Country Community Health, Mountain alliance, Oasis, Inc., Pisgah Legal services, Prevent Blindness North Carolina and W.A.M.Y. Community Action.

The Avery Community Foundation is a growing family of philanthropic funds, source of grants for local causes and partner for donors. ACF was founded in 1997 and is led by a local volunteer advisory board that helps build community assets through the creation of permanent endowments, makes grants and leverages leadership – all for the benefit of Avery County

The Avery Community Foundations seeks board members, volunteers and philanthropists to contribute their talents to Avery County. Call Jim Austin for information at jgaustin1231@gmail.com.
