About Us

Our mission at the High Country Breast Cancer Foundation is to help breast cancer patients, survivors and their families in the NC High Country. We are a locally based, all volunteer organization–we are not a chapter or affiliate of a national or global entity.

We depend on the incredible support of donors, sponsors and community business partners. We hold fundraising events throughout the year, the largest being our 5K Walk-Run event held each October. 100% of the money raised remains in our community. We have awarded over $19,000
since we began in 2017, helping patients catch up on bills, assisting with the college education of patient’s children, providing prosthetics/wigs and delivering meals–whatever they may need!

Every penny we receive goes to help those in need. Irene Sawyer, our Founder and President, pays for 100% of the foundation’s expenses with her own earnings: from T-shirts, to tents, to the ad you’re reading.
