About Us

Sugar Mountain Lodging, Inc. is truly a family business. Avery County native Joan Stocton opened the company in 1998 after working on Sugar Mountain for many years. Joan had a cleaning business and worked for the other companies in the area, even after starting SML, until the business was established. Along with her kids, Chad Waycaster and Cody Waycaster Hughes, the family has been incredibly fortunate to work and spend so much time together all these years.

Chad is no longer working in the rental/real estate field, but he's still around. Just around to the back of our office building, he owns and operates Those Were the Days Antiques. On Saturdays you'll usually see his wife Marcie and their son Drew around, too.

Cody is our broker in charge and her toddler son Judah is usually in the office, either singing or sitting in the lap of his mama or his Granny Joan. It's such a great opportunity for him to meet so many interesting new people from all over. He's constantly making new friends!

Much of our business is from repeat customers and they've come to feel like extended members of our family, as well as our wonderful homeowners. SML is not the biggest rental company in the area, but we do offer a personal experience and we care deeply about what we do.

We are always looking to grow our business. If you are a real estate owner and have considered earning passive income, sign up with us and we will start the process off in the best way possible.
